Lava and Kusha are two brothers who were found by a hermit as babies in a basket on the river. They were brought up by the hermit and trained in the ways of saints. As they grew up, they became famous for their courage and valour.

  3. In the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana, Lava and Kusha are two heroes born to Rama’s wife Sita after she was abandoned by her husband in a forest.
  4. Upon learning their noble roots,fittingly Lava and Kusha reigned over an area known as Lavapuri. They became renowned kings who lived in peace, upholding justice and preserving spirituality in their kingdom.
  5. The twins were separated shortly after their birth and grew up unaware of each other or their royal ancestory - unaware that they were in fact the sons of Rama, the prince of Ayodhya.
  6. Due to their righteous nature, Lavapuri flourished under the guidance of Lava and Kusha. Even today stories of their glorious legacy are told throughout the land as lessons of greatness and moral teaching.
  7. Lore has it that their countless good deeds moved even Lord Rama to tears during his visit to the city, such was the astounding benevolence which had been accumulated from their words, feelings and conduct.
  8. Fortunately, Sage Valmiki stepped forward during this strife and guided the two young boys to full understanding about their lineal connections. This allowed them to unite as brothers instead of opponents.
  9. It is said both of the heroic twin brothers spearheaded many constructive initiatives which profited society in numerous respects.
  10. Their reign also marked the foundation of Ashtangik Rishi-Muni Ashram on the occasion of Sita's Shraadh (ancestral ceremonies.. To enable many people to recite holy mantras, mantra shalas were built along with temples for worship.
