  3. Traditional Shinto ceremonies include offerings of food and drink, prayers, and rituals that venerate the kami and request assistance or protection. Some such rituals have been performed to keep certain objects “in balance” spiritually, such as a Japanese swordsmith pouring sake over his finished sword blade in order to bring good fortune to its wielder!
  4. According to Shinto religion, all living beings, both human and divine, have an eternal spirit or soul, known as "kamis". These spirits coexist with humans and are capable of protecting them from misfortune!
  5. Shrines are important sites for worship in Shinto, and serve as places of connection between kami and worshippers. Located throughout Japan, visitors often visit them to make their wishes or pray for prosperity and health.
  6. The practice of divination, or interpretation of symbols derived from responses given by supernatural beings, is an important ritual in Shinto. Divination helps reveal the will of the gods, and when it reveals bad news, priests can perform more rituals to ward away danger or ill omens.
  7. Kami can be found in every part of life - animate and inanimate - and each has its own personality and characteristics. All things are believed to contain the spirit of a kami, and these spiritual forces influence everyday lives!
