Mind is a tool but must not be the master from "summary" of Meditation by Osho

The mind, a remarkable instrument, possesses immense power when harnessed appropriately. It is designed for functionality, for calculation, for logic. Yet, the danger arises when it assumes the role of the master, dictating emotions, actions, and perceptions. This shift transforms a beautiful tool into a tyrant, leading one into a labyrinth of thoughts and distractions, far removed from the essence of being. When the mind reigns supreme, it generates a barrage of thoughts, creating an illusion of reality. One becomes ensnared in a web of worries and desires, losing touch with the present moment. The mind, in its endless chatter, often amplifies fears and anxieties, giving rise to a conditioned response that prioritizes survival over genuine experience. Awareness and presence become overshadowed by a constant stream of mental noise, making true understanding elusive. To restore balance, one must cultivate the art of observation. By stepping back, the individual recognizes the mind’s nature—its ceaseless oscillation between the past and future. This awareness allows one to reclaim sovereignty over thoughts, to respond with clarity rather than react impulsively. Meditation serves as a sanctuary, a space to quiet the noise and reconnect with the stillness within.
