Sensors and actuators roles from "summary" of Feedback Control Systems by Farzin Asadi,Robert E. Bolanos,Jorge Rodríguez
Sensors and actuators play an important role in the efficient functioning of most systems. They detect changes in the environment and respond accordingly, providing the necessary feedback to maintain the desired conditions.- Sensors and actuators are components of an automatic control system that work together to produce the desired output. Sensors collect data from the environment whereas the actuators alter the physical environment in order to achieve a desired effect.
- In automated control systems, sensors provide feedback of the controlled process by measuring various conditions while giving this information to a processing device. The actuator then acts upon the signal received from the processor by using either electrical or mechanical energy to perform certain task based on the input it had received.
- In combination with control loops, sensors and actuators are used extensively in robotics, communication & automation technology and material handling systems providing the feedback and control necessary for more effective activity.
