  3. While it may seem harmless, creating a false reality can be damaging if it leads to poor decision making or mistreatment of another person. For instance, pretending poverty to receive charity benefits when one is actually well-off.
  4. People often use tricks like lying and exaggerating stories to appear different than what they really are. This method is used to manipulate and control other people into believing that the false reality you have created is true.
  5. Framing situations and memories in a certain light in order to present yourself in an ideal way is a type of false reality. Even omitting key information to paint yourself in a particular way can be considered as manipulating the truth in order to construct a false image.
  6. Technology has made it easier to create a fantasy world for oneself in which events can be adjusted, characters rewritten, and outcomes altered. Social media platforms make it possible to fabricate a self-image different from what it truly is.
  7. In general, leading someone on or giving mixed signals can be seen as misrepresenting your intentions, ultimately giving way to a false impression. Therefore it's important to be honest about emotions so as not to give off a false sense of expectations.
