Arrested for Saunders murder from "summary" of Bhagat Singh Biography by The Biography Edits

The legendary leader Bhagat Singh was arrested for the murder of British Police Officer Saunders in the year 1928. His arrest sparked outrage among the Indian people and he was later hailed as a hero for his revolutionary actions.
  1. In April 1929, a young man called Saunders was killed in broad daylight outside the VC Court in Lahore. Several days later, the police arrested Bhagat Singh and his two accomplices Raj Guru and Sukhdev Thapar for the murder of Saunders.

  3. Eventually, the court found Bhagat Singh guilty of killing Saunders and awarded him death sentence. Even though, Singh didn’t show any fear or doubt and accepted the judgement bravely and with composure.
  4. The court case drew immense media attention both nationally and internationally. It even stirred debates among political establishments of the world as Bhagat Singh symbolized revolutionary movement against colonial rule.
  5. Bhagat Singh had to face trial for this crime and he refused to hire an Advocate or to appeal for mercy despite being urged by other revolutionaries.
  6. His last words were “Inquilab Zindabad” which translates as ‘Long Live Revolution’ - a testimony of his fight against colonial oppression and injustice - and that moment made Bhagat Singh a symbol for freedom struggles all over World.
