Alexander Hamilton was a passionate supporter of women's rights, advocating for equal legal treatment for women and equal access to education and property. He strongly believed that women should be allowed the same rights and opportunities as men, and his speeches and writings on the subject continue to inspire to this day.- Alexander Hamilton was an ardent supporter of women's rights during his lifetime. He sought to empower and encourage women by advocating for greater educational opportunities for them. He argued that successful economies thrived on the efforts of both men and women and encouraged wives to own and manage property alongside their husbands.
- During the debates of the New York Ratifying Convention of 1788, Hamilton aggressively spoke out against laws which discriminated against or prevented married women from partaking in business ventures and owning or managing property. His views were controversial at the time but led to significant reforms in the years ahead.
- Hamilton argued for gender parity not only in economic terms, but also in political participation. He believed it a crime to deny half of society this basic human right. He wrote 'If we mean to have heroes, statesmen and philosophers, we should have learned women.'
